The Kaspersky Antivirus Rescue
CD is a free bootable Linux based rescue cd. It has a graphical user
interface and command line option.
Pros:
The
image file is updated regularly with fresh definition files.
Image size is average for a live antivirus
distribution.
Excellent heuristics and detection rate.
Gui and command line interface are easy to navigate.
Cons:
Graphical
user interface freezes some computers.
Kaspersky Labs is a well recognized name in the
antivirus industry with a very successful Internet Security and
Antivirus product line.
This product offers excellent heuristics and
detection rates with a well established definition base.
The user interface is clean and sharp, but freezes
on some computers.
In testing, I was only able to use the command line
interface on some laptop computers. Several scanning options are
available, from just boot sectors to all drives. The default options
have heuristics enabled and ask for action with each detection.
Scanning is a little slow compared to other live cd scanners, but has a
smart scanning option to help reduce overall scan time on systems with
many documents or images.
The command line status updates are good, but
sometimes cut text off. In several cases the detected infection and
location was not visible, only the option to delete or skip.
A great scanner with a solid definitions base,
excellent heuristics, a nice GUI and straight forward command line
interface. Some minor imperfections, but no show stoppers.
Highly recommended as one of the best Linux based
live CDs I have come across.
